Who writes these wine guides
Jeff Higdon is the founder of Plan Wine Tasting. For the past 35 years, he has planned and enjoyed annual wine-tasting trips to wine regions across the country. Plan Wine Tasting grew out of Jeff's love of wine country and the practical lessons he has learned while organizing successful tasting trips. From choosing wineries and building realistic itineraries to managing reservations, travel time, and tasting notes, these guides help other wine lovers plan more enjoyable, organized, and memorable wine-country experiences.
How the guides are edited
Planning advice comes from those trips: one corridor a day, a reservation for the tasting you cannot miss, and a realistic stop count. Fee, visit-length, and reservation figures come from the 2026 U.S. Winery Tasting Report. That report is a sample of 200 listings in six regions, collected from published winery offerings between January and August 2026. It is not a census of every U.S. winery. The source appendix lists each winery, the official site when one was stored, and the price and visit time that were captured. Confirm the current fee and reservation with the winery before you book.
Plan Wine Tasting and Discover Wine Online
Plan Wine Tasting is the public reading site: guides, itineraries, the cost calculator, tasting discounts, and the report. Discover Wine Online is the same publisher’s site for the filterable winery map, cellar tracking, and accounts. Some articles appear on both sites. When they do, the page says so and links to the other copy. This site does not include the map or a cellar.
